Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
**Kindly inform me if you have a specific time in mind for scheduling.

This online writing class aims to assist middle school and above students in advancing their writing skills. We will focus on areas the student wishes to improve upon. For those seeking to enhance their overall abilities, we will work on an informative writing unit with mini-lessons. The mini-lesson will cover topics such as citing the text, figurative language, parts of speech, citations, etc.
I can assist students with their homework or any particular projects they might have.
The schedule for the session will be as follows:
- 5-minute introduction and distribution of materials
- 10-minute mini-skills activity
- 30-minute direct instruction
- 5-minute wrap-up skill activity.

MATERIALS/LESSONS:
The lesson utilizes PowerPoint and YouTube videos shared with the class. No subscriptions are required for websites used in class.
Physical materials
Notebook, pencil, download materials as necessary for each class,
PARTICIPATION
In my classes, I make sure to encourage discussion and movement, ensuring that learners have enough space to participate. I engage with each student by asking questions about the subject matter and their personal opinions. My top priority is to ensure that every learner enjoys the learning experience and has fun while doing so.

MUTING:
I do my best to encourage participation from learners enrolled in my classes. I prefer to leave learners unmuted, but as a parent myself, I understand that there are instances where learners need to be muted due to background noise that cannot be prevented. Parents, please feel free to mute your learners at your discretion.

If there is distracting background noise during class, I may utilize the mute function to limit its effect on other learners.

RECORDINGS:
Each student will be asked to mark their attendance at the beginning of each class visually. They can turn off their camera afterward except to show their work. Some students can be visual except through Outschool Safety and Security. Recordings are not automatically shown in the classroom. I like to create a safe, open space for students to be themselves and want them to be as interactive as possible. Recordings are generated and linked to my class automatically. If you encounter any difficulty accessing them, kindly inform me, and I'll gladly assist you. Every student must have a pencil, notebook, paper, colored pencils, a small stapler, and a writing surface. Furthermore, they should keep their supplies in a designated area to enable them to quickly access them during class. Occasionally, I use playdough to demonstrate a point or furnish a physical dimension to a sentence or part of it.

1. Week 1 Informal Assessment/Identification of missing skills
Prior to class, I will send out a notification requesting what areas the student needs to work on in writing. If they are general, we will complete a general assessment. If it is a specific type of writing, I will conduct an informal assessment in that area.

2. Week 2: Punctuation
Students will learn to identify the various uses of the different types of functions in writing.

3. Week 3: Structure of sentences
Students will learn to identify simple, compound, and complex sentence structures.

4. Week 4: Five-Paragraph structure
Students will identify the components of a five-paragraph, topic paragraph, supporting paragraph, and conclusion paragraphs.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their writing skills; ideas, punctuation, organization, fluency, and vocabulary development.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Master's Degree in Education from University of Phoenix
I am a licensed elementary school teacher in the state of Texas. I have a Masters in Curriculum and Ed.S in Educational Technology. I have lived and worked as a teacher in Virginia, Louisiana, Texas, Minnesota, and Colorado. In each state, I was a licensed/certified elementary/middle school teacher. In addition to working with elementary and middle school teachers, I have worked for several years as a special education teacher and online ESL and private teacher. In public schools, I specialized as a teacher by working with students who had severe physical, mental, and cognitive issues. Also, I worked with students who had severe Autism and who were also diagnosed with High Functional Asperger’s. Currently, I work online as an English Language teacher, writer, and teacher trainer. My two favorite historical figures are Abraham Lincoln and Malcolm X because each person never allowed failure to stop them from their eventual success as a person. My passion is to work with students in small groups and individuals who require scaffolding instruction to be successful. In addition, I love to teach a variety of courses and have a variety of interests that I want to share with my students. I love to teach project-based courses that incorporate reading, writing, math, and technology skills in relation to history and cultural awareness.
I love learning! I am in graduate school and attend many workshops. I have completed my Educational Specialist degree in Educational Technology, my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, my Bachelor of Arts in Specials Education, and my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I also have an Associate degree in Early Childhood and a TESOL in English as a Second Language. I attend many workshops and have received my certifications as a Language teacher (Phonics, English as a Second Language, Language-based Disabilities).
In addition to working for Outschool, I have a business “Michelle’s Innovations” and provide services as an
•	an ESL teacher and am contracted with several Asian companies as either a small group or one on one teacher
• training for other teachers via webinars and in-person workshops.
•	adjunct professor for an online community college, Aimslee Institute
•	Online Prof: an online education store
•	Customized lessons/tutoring for students who are homeschooled,
•	Professional Learning for education professionals and proofreader for writers
As a public school teacher, I received training in multi subjects, including science, writing, reading, math, and geography. As a result, I also taught children from PreK- 8th grade in the above subjects. My certifications have included these areas, as well as a resource, teaching, and ESL. My favorite subjects have always been science, reading, writing, and geography, so I have been fortunate in that I have been able to teach these subjects to students who are extremely interested in these areas.

My husband is a retired Navy person and we have lived in many different parts of the United States of America. In addition, my own family has lived in Europe where my Dad worked as a teacher. I love to share and believe that we are a global community that needs to live together.
