This is a class for autistic students, lead by an autistic adult. Many autistics have one or more deep passionate interest that we love to talk about. This a place for students to do just that! This class is like a one time social group with the purpose of giving students an outlet to talk about what they love to people who understand how important it is to them even if they don't share the same interests. I am autistic myself as is my youngest brother who is 15 years younger than me. I have been working with special needs students for 8 years, autistic children for 5 years including as a community support worker for autistic teens and tweens. I also have my associates degree in special education.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Topics will vary depending on students interests so it is not possible for me to include a list of topics. I only ask that topics are not overly violent or sexual. Think of a PG 13 movie, if it wouldn't be in a PG 13 movie keep it out of class. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
