Class Experience

Students should expect to have a fun time with others while providing other learners tips and tricks they have mastered during gameplay. I will teach-back and forth communication skills, how to stay positive when things don't go our way, and teamwork. This class is learner-directed so the topics might change based on the skill level that the learners have or game-based topics they want to discuss. I love playing Rocket League and have logged over 1,000 hours and I will use that knowledge when teaching this class.

Week 1: Students will be given an ice-breaker question before class and then join the private party for gameplay where they will practice their communication and social skills.
Week 2: Students will discuss their favorite maps and why they chose that. We will join the private party for gameplay where they will practice their communication and social skills
Week 3: Students will discuss their customized car and why they chose that. We will join the private party for gameplay where they will practice their communication and social skills.
Week 4: Students will discuss their favorite game modes and the reasons why. We will join the private party for gameplay where they will practice their communication and social skills.

The weekly summary can change as this is a learner-directed class so the topics change depending on what is happening in-game, whether that be updates to the game or actual gameplay.

The majority of this class will be spent playing Rocket League and using our communication skills (I will provide prompting and help guide students with participation when needed).

DISCLAIMER: I do give the choice to the students whether they would like to play a private or a public game, unfortunately, if we do play public I am not in control of some of the names or clan names that can be on there. However, there is a setting in rocket league to censor profanities and disable chat for the opposing team.

This class is open to all students with all levels of abilities but is taught with accommodations in mind for those students who need extra support with learning.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am Autistic and know that for students like me, learning needs to be visual and fun! I have worked with disabled students and student athletes for over 8 years. As a teacher, I love involving topics of high interest into learning, which helps my students stay focused. I will always involve all students in class participation and make them feel as comfortable as possible. I know some students can be shy or need time to open up and that's ok! If your learner needs any accommodations in class, I am more than happy to help.
