This class is a read aloud of a fiction story by the author, Robert Munsch. I will give the students a voice/choice on which story we will read depending on their interests. The focus will be on listening to a fiction story and comprehending what was read. We will discuss story elements such as characters, setting of the story, and the problems in the story. We will use the pictures to further understand the story. We will discuss the author's purpose for writing the story. The students will make predictions and work on comprehension. The students will further demonstrate a love of books and emerge with a strong reading foundation. The students will be encouraged to read the repeated lines in the story, if they feel comfortable doing so. This class can be a much needed break in a busy day to share a laugh or two with some new friends. So grab a comfy place to sit and maybe a snack and get ready to listen to a story. Feel free to enroll your child in the class again as the books will change each week.
Learning Goals
-The students will practice their listening skills.
-Students will use their speaking skills to discuss the story elements and the author's purpose.
-The students will use their thinking skills to make predictions and comprehend and retell the story in their own words.
-The students will interact with other students and have a few laughs.

A cozy place to sit to listen to a funny story and maybe a stuffed animal or a snack to enjoy while listening to the story.

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.
My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My teaching license certifies me to teach grades 1~6. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power. I can support your young learner.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw and label. Let's get started!
