They will be taught how to differentiate between elements, molecules and compounds. They will be introduced to the concept of ions, and ion formation. I will teach the octet rule and how elements achieve stability when they form ions. This class will primarily focus on ionic bonding. Students will be taught how to read the periodic table more mindfully and apply the information provided in the periodic table to quiz questions. How to name simple binary ionic compounds will also be taught. I will lecturing for the most part, but student participation is required. I will answer any questions that students have during and after the lecture.
