At-Your-Pace Beginner’s Trumpet Class (Flexible Schedule) Ages 10-14

The teacher will guide the students in producing tones on the trumpet! The instructor will go over the parts of the trumpet, and basic playing technique. Students will work on recognizing note names on the staff and memorizing fingerings for notes.  The instructor will teach basic warm ups, and students should practice playing along on their instrument. Students will learn short melodies and also some songs students should recognize! The instructor will give tips on how to improve tone, and we will be working on expanding the range of notes that students can play. 

The teacher will explain musical symbols such as treble clef, forte and piano, repeat sign, double bar lines, etc. 

Students should interact and answer questions in the classroom! The teacher will be available for basic trumpet troubleshooting.

After each lesson, students will have a playing assignment and a written assignment. Students should share their video assignments  in the classroom and the teacher will also provide feedback on written work. 

Students should take notes (or have a parent take notes) during each lesson of any questions that you think of, and take note of questions asked so we can discuss. 

Students will also have creative projects of composing! Students should share their work with each other to inspire each other and see what each other is working on. 

Students will also be paired up to complete interactive games such as coming up with a “secret music word” and then the partner will try to decode and even play the message in response! 

No previous music knowledge required! Students will just need their trumpet and a willingness to try something new!
