Class Experience

The teacher will guide the students in learning the first steps of how to play the piano! Students will work on recognizing note names, being fluent in “the music alphabet”, learning which key is which, and playing 5-note patterns. Students will learn how to read steps verses skips, and will learn some easy songs to play!

More specifics:
-The instructor will go over how to sit at the piano properly, and basic foundational technique to play.
-Students will learn to recognize each white key on the piano as well as the black key pattern
-Students will learn the musical alphabet and be able to quickly think of the next letter stepping up or stepping down, or skipping up and down
-Students will learn the main 5-note scales including C, D, E, F, G, A, F#, etc. with right hand and left hand, and a challenge of hands together playing.
-The teacher will write out notes on the staff and explain what they are called, and teach how to recognize different notes on the staff, and how to find them on the piano!
-The teacher will teach high notes vs. low notes, how to recognize the sound of steps vs. skips, and major vs minor sounds.
-The teacher will explain musical symbols such as treble and bass clef, forte and piano, repeat sign, double bar lines, etc.

Students should interact and answer questions in the classroom!

After each lesson, students will have a playing assignment and a written assignment. Students should share their video assignments in the classroom and the teacher will also provide feedback on written work.

Students should take notes (or have a parent take notes) during each lesson of any questions that you think of, and take note of questions asked so we can discuss.

Students will also have creative projects of composing! Students can share their work with each other to inspire each other and see what each other is working on.

Students will also be paired up to complete interactive games such as coming up with a “secret music word” and then the partner will try to decode and even play the message in response!

Hi!

I teach piano lessons, voice lessons, trumpet lessons, and general music lessons! I have taught private music lessons for 20 years now! Wow! Haha! I have my masters degree in piano performance/pedagogy from Bowling Green State University. I love to make music fun & I enjoy working with young children, middle grade & high school students to especially encourage them! Along with my in person students, I have taught a great deal of lessons online. I have three kids under the age of 5 so every day is a new adventure!! Hope to see you soon!
