Class Experience

Let's get our hands dirty with science!! In this summer camp, students will immerse themselves in the basics of science. We will start each class with a brief discussion of the topic, followed by a short video to emphasize the lesson. Students will work with each other and the teacher to complete fun science worksheets each day. Then, it's time to dive in! Each day of camp will be a different experiment and learning topic. Students will learn the scientific method, how to make a hypothesis, and how to fill out a lab report. We will cover the basics of lab safety. These science basics will be touched on every day of camp. The experiments covered in this summer camp are:
Day One: Lab Safety, the Scientific Method, and Dissolving egg shell
Day Two: Chemical reactions and homemade Volcanoes
Day Three: Polymers and Slime
Day Four: Polymers and Bouncy Balls
Day Five: Chemical reactions and the Dissolving Cup
Day Six: Chemical Reactions with Mentos and Soda and physics with Walking Water
Learning Goals
Students will learn the scientific method, observation skills, how to make a hypothesis, and how to fill out a lab report. Students will learn and understand the concepts of chemical reactions, polymers, monomers, and basic physics.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I enjoy teaching literature classes that make learning the greats fun and interesting. I love teaching Shakespeare and creative writing. I also enjoy home-based science classes. I have been in education for years. I began teaching early childhood education in the school system in San Diego. I moved on to teach middle grade children. Most recently, I worked as a Children's Director and oversaw the entire K-5th program. I have also taught in many home school co-ops, where I worked with al age groups. I have a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in British literature. I believe that kids learn thru all different types of media. It is important to remember that not every child learns the same way. By making education fun and engaging, kids will be excited to learn! When I am not spending time with my own two kiddos hiking or swimming, I am usually playing my cello or walking my Irish wolfhound. He is as big as a small pony!
