Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this 4-week, self-paced writing class, students will be given the opportunity to practice their creative writing skills and presentation skills. Students interact through the Outschool classroom to share their creative writing stories.

Methodology: Students will be provided with a syllabus that contains step-by-step instructions for successfully completing the class. Students will receive 5 creative writing prompts per lesson over a period of 4 lessons to equal a total of 20 writing prompts. The writing prompt may be read aloud by the instructor, or it may be an image or video clip. After receiving the writing prompt, students will have five minutes to write a short story based upon the prompt. After the five minutes are over, students can finish up any remaining details to finalize their story. Once their story is written, each student will be instructed to share their story with the class. This is done by asking each student to record a video in the Outschool classroom or post a written story. Students will be encouraged to leave positive feedback on classmate's videos if there is more than one student in the class. As the students discuss their stories and offer feedback, the instructor will moderate the conversations.

Since this is a self-paced course, students can participate on the dates and times that work for them, but ideally should submit their work weekly.

Students do not need any background knowledge but must be able to write or type a short story. Students will interact within the class by recording a read aloud of their stories, or by posting their written work.
