Class Experience

This course is designed to introduce students to the wonders of space, from the smallest particles to the galaxies. This class is designed for beginners or those that already have an interest in space science. My goal is to provide engaging and interactive lessons to deepen learners’ understanding of the cosmos.

What Will Be Taught?

Students will learn about the fundamental concepts of astronomy, including celestial bodies, cosmic events, and the forces that shape our universe. We will explore both theoretical concepts and real-world observations to build a well-rounded understanding of space.

March 31: Planets
April 7: Galaxies
April 14: Black Holes
April 21: Space Exploration

Class Structure

This course is structured in a way that balances lecture-based learning with interactive activities to keep students engaged. Each class will typically include:
	1.	Brief Lecture & Slides – Key concepts will be introduced with visuals.
	2.	Video Clips & Animations – To bring complex topics to life. We will also play some games that align with the concepts being taught.
	3.	Discussions & Q&A Sessions – A chance for students to engage in critical thinking and share their thoughts.

Teaching Approach & Style

My teaching style is engaging, interactive, and student-centered. I believe that the best way to learn is by actively participating, so I incorporate a mix of lectures, discussion and visual aids. Complex topics will be broken down into simple, easy-to-understand explanations, and students will be encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and think critically about the universe.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
In terms of my teaching experience, I have taught a variety of subjects (astronomy being one of them) for almost 15 years. The ages I have focused on most are 3-14. I have also homeschooled my children since they were little and I’ve helped several others get started on homeschooling as well. My kids are huge astronomy lovers, so this a big subject we focus on in our family. You could say we are astronomy nerds.

Through experience, I have learned how students learn best. I have also learned the most effective teaching strategies. I apply these in all of my classes.
