In this three-day-long space camp learners will get a good foundational understanding of astronomy and the universe. Over three days we will cover: Day 1: Introduction to Our Solar System -- Learn about the structure of the solar system, including objects like dwarf planets, and structures like the Kuiper Belt, and get acquainted with the planets and the moons. Day 2: The Night Sky -- What is up with the 88 constellations in our sky? Where do you find the planets and the moon? We will learn how to find our directions in the sky, where important objects like planets are found, and the stories of some of the most well-known constellations. Day 3: Beyond Our Solar System -- What else is in the Milky Way galaxy? Are there other worlds like Earth out there? What are the chances that other life exists out there? What exactly are nebulas and black holes, and where can you find them? Let's learn more about our galactic neighbourhood in our third class. This camp will be structured as an interactive discussion with me and other learners. We will use visual aids to help us discuss these ideas, and I heavily encourage all comments and questions from learners! I will also post informational sheets and worksheets for learners for each day, as well as some fun space-themed activities! Learners will not need any prior knowledge of space to enjoy this camp.
Learning Goals
Learners will learn some foundational knowledge about space science, including how to find important and prominent objects and constellations in the sky, how our solar system is structured, and what else is out there in Milky Way Galaxy.
