Description

Class Experience

Creative writers and storytellers will learn what goes into building believable worlds, settings, and universes for their creative writing projects. They will then practice worldbuilding and setting the stage for one of their own stories!

We will meet together as a class twice. During the first class session, we will talk all about the worlds of our stories, from the everyday to the truly fantastical. I will provide several exercises learners may use to guide them in both creating and...

Writers will work to create/develop the setting or world for one of their story-based creative writing projects, to be workshopped by the group in the second class session. The complexity of this project for any particular student depends on the complexity of the world of their story, as well as what the learner already knows about this place. Worldbuilding may continue throughout the writing process, so there is not an expectation that the setting will be "complete" or fully understood yet (although it is also OK if the writer believes they are "done" with it).

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
