I've been a licensed & certified teacher for almost eight years. Professionally, I've taught several subject areas, including English, Social Studies, and Study Skills, primarily in the middle school to high school age ranges. I taught a Fantasy Adventure Workshop that was a hit and decided to turn it into an ongoing class that would allow students to keep working and sharing while learning more tips and tricks. Degrees: -Bachelors of Science in English Education, Social Studies Education, & Special Education Grades 6-12 -Masters of Education in Curriculum & Instruction
Being that this is a writing club, students are expected to write. They can create their own short stories based on the weekly class topic or incorporate the weekly topic into a novel they've already begun. Students are to turn in their writing samples through the classroom portal for feedback.
Students will be provided with worksheets to aid them in brainstorming ideas centered on the weekly topic. They should also have access to some type of word processing and presentation software (ie., Mircosoft Word & Powerpoint or Google Docs & Slides).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners are informally assessed with me provide writing feedback to make their stories stronger. I will use a Common core Narrative Writing Rubric to assess writing.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
