US Grade 1 - 4
Astronomy is the branch of science which deals with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole. In this class, students will learn all about the third planet from the sun, Venus! Learners will also brainstorm futuristic technology that would allow them to survive on Venus. Class begins with brief introductions and time to share favorite things about space! Does your learner love yellow dwarf stars or constellations? The International Space Station or the newest Crew Dragon Spaceship? Connect with other space learners who are also intrigued by our universe. After introductions, learners get geared up (in our imaginations) and head to Venus. We pretend like it is actually possible to land on Venus and we learn about how Venus looks, sounds, smells and more! Finally, we will brainstorm future technology that will be needed for humans to survive on Venus. This is completely creative with no right or wrong suggestions. Learners are welcome to draw or build ideas (think clay, like model magic or Lego Bricks). During class, I encourage students to participate in whatever ways they feel comfortable. I make class as fun as possible with lots of activity so learners stay engaged! I use a colorful google slide presentations chocked full of illustrations and short video clips. This class is designed for students that are just learning about Venus.
Learning Goals
Students will learn all about Venus. We will examine what we might see, hear, taste, smell and touch if astronauts could land on Venus.
