Intermediate Level
I am thrilled to offer ASL Level 3 - High School Course! This will be an interactive, informative, and fun class for intermediate students who want to continue learning American Sign Language at a high school level! This course is for student's who have completed ASL Level 1 and 2, ASL for Beginners Part 1 - Part 4, or has had a minimum of 2 year of ASL studies from another course. ASL Level 3 - High School Course will run for the 24/25 school year. Check out the syllabus for this year's content! During this course, the students will learn several hundred new vocabulary signs, increase their fluency with conversational skills, advance their ASL grammar, emerge themselves in Deaf culture and signing, expand their fluency, and dig into Deaf history. We will learn through assignments, activities, demonstration, and lots of practice! We will also continue to advance grammar skills and classifier practice. I will provide quizzes, class assignments, a midterm, final exam, class certificates, and a final grade. The grade will be based off of an accumulation of quiz, test, and assignments results, as well as class participation. This course will be tons of fun!! The students will also be asked to complete two ASL class assignments throughout the school year. These include a Deaf Culture Essay and ASL's Got Talent. Details of these projects will be presented on the class syllabus and specific instructions will also be given in class. These assignments are really enjoyable and will expand your student's ASL skills. Students need to have completed a minimum of 2 years of ASL before enrolling in this course, or other prerequisites listed above. Class policy: Each student must have a camera on during this so that I can help them with the correct hand-forms and locations, this is an essential part of learning in this course. Student's will also be engaging and practicing their ASL signs with conversations and their hands must be seen for this. If the student does not want their face seen, they may angle the camera to only show their hands.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their fluency with ASL, gain deeper knowledge of the culture and history, and expand their vocabulary.
