Sign Language is a beautiful, expressive language that I LOVE to teach. Kids can soak up the language like a sponge at an early age and often love using it. In short… ASL is Awesome! This Intermediate class is designed for students who are already familiar with the ASL alphabet, numbers and have built up some sign language vocabulary and are ready to use it! A greater portion of the class will be “silent” so that learners can really practice their receptive and expressive signing skills. When learners enjoy a class and know how to use the signs they learn, they are much more likely to retain them. Every week has a theme that is presented with animated slides, images and/or videos to help keep learners engaged. We will use memory retention techniques and games throughout the course. Some weeks review sheets will be used and sent to all learners after the class to help them practice and remember what they learned. Since the class is ongoing you can join during any week, however attending regularly each week will provide the most well rounded development in ASL. I’m looking forward to signing with you soon! *** If your learner is new to sign language I would recommend the ASL is Awesome - A beginners course. The beginner course I offer is great for absolute beginners and for those who may already have some limited exposure to sign language but are not quite ready for this ongoing class that will call for them to sign more throughout the class.*** Course Calendar: August 28 Introductions/ Conversations Sept 4 Communicating Emotions and Feelings Sept 11 Asking Questions and Making Requests Sept 18 Describe People Sept 25 Family Signing (Immediate Family) Oct 2 Family Signing (Extended Family) Oct 9 Time/Sign about your Day Oct 16 Time/Sign about your Week/Month/Year Oct 23 Weather Talk Oct 30 Describe your Favorite Foods or Least Favorite Foods Nov 6 My Home Nov 13 Describe My Home Nov 20 Interests and Hobbies Nov 27 Sign about Your Interests and Hobbies Dec 4 Travel Day / Transportation Dec 11 Describe your favorite place in the world Dec 18 Classifiers Dec 25 Classifier story Jan 1 ABC Story Jan 8 ASL Grammar Jan 15 ASL Grammar Stories Jan 22 Review/ Fingerspelling Practice Jan 29 Introductions/ Conversations

Hello! I’m so excited for the opportunity to teach here at outschool. I have over 20 years of teaching experience. Much of my time as a volunteer teacher. I have a BA of education as well as a TESOL certificate. I have been learning and teaching American Sign Language since 2005. I spend many hours a week using and teaching others including my 5 year old son in ASL. I also have been working as an ESL teacher for over 2 years now.
I am passionate about teaching because education is so important and rewarding. Since I believe learning should be fun and challenging I like to use lots of pictures, games and activities. This really keeps the class moving and engaging.
Sign language is a huge part of my life and I enjoy teaching it. I thought it would be exciting to create classes so that kids would have fun and want to jump right in to learning sign language.
I love outdoors. We spend as much time as possible outside. Camping, hiking you name it we love it. Hope to meet you all soon!
