This class is an introduction to words and phrases designed for students to continue study after completing "The ABC's of ASL - American Sign Language". It is not required for students to complete MY course of ABC's, but they should already possess the skills to sign the complete alphabet before enrolling in this class. Classes will follow the following format: Week 1: Class information, Introduce 25-30 new ASL signs. Review and practice Week 2: Review Week 1, Introduce 25-30 new ASL...
This class is taught in English.
Simple words and phrases in ASL Communication will be the focus of the class. If students wish to progress in ASL after completing this class, I can create sessions focusing on advanced phrases and conversation.
I have been teaching ASL in-person to students of all ages for more than 25 years, and in online classrooms for more than 2 years. I have received recognition and awards for Teaching ASL by the Association of American Educators Foundation, as well as earning the title of “ASL Teacher of the Year” from Beach Cities Unified District, 1997-1999, 2001 and 2003.
Students will be provided with worksheets and handouts to continue strengthening their newfound skills.
Students should arrive to class with printouts of all attachments from the classroom message board.
Students will self assess during the final class meeting.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This class is appropriate for all ages.
