Are you competitive and seeking to incorporate your love for game into your ASL learning journey? If so, you've come to the right place. In this class we will play ASL games nearly all class period, often taking only fifteen minutes during the beginning to learn a few signs and rules pertaining to the game. Look forward to friendly competitions and team building games and exercises to grow your communicative skills in ASL. PLEASE NOTE that students will need to know at least the fingerspelled alphabet to partake, as this is a reoccurring class where each session is not contingent upon the next, but the main skill of fingerspelling is necessary and likely to be included in every class. The games we play will depend on the various levels of students attending the session, but no matter your skill level, as long as you know the fingerspelled alphabet from A - Z, you will be able to participate. Each session will be centered around learning or practicing using signs from one or more of the following topics: - Fingerspelling - Numbers - Basic Greeting Signs - Basic Family Signs - Basic Food Signs - Basic Color Signs - Basic Animal Signs - Basic Emotional/Feeling signs (eg. Happy, Sad, etc...) - Basic Signs pertaining to Hobbies & Interests - Basic School and Classroom Signs - Basic Sport Signs Below is a description of how each weekly session will go. Week of April 11th -- Our theme will be the foods. We will spend up to the first fifteen minutes of class learning or reviewing the fruits and vegetables in ASL with Kahoot. We will then play four on a couch. ______________________________________________________________________ Week of April 18th - Our theme will be the alphabet. We will spend up to the first fifteen minutes of class reviewing the alphabet and learning one or two corresponding signs to accompany each letter sign. We will play a game in which students take turns trying to make each other fingerspell an answer using the "forbidden letter" or handshape. ______________________________________________________________________ Week of April 25th -- Our theme will be ASL fingerspelling. We will spend up to the first ten minutes learning or reviewing the alphabet signs with Kahoot. Then we'll play a competitive finger seek, which is an ASL-style word search. ______________________________________________________________________ Week of May 2nd -- Our theme will be ASL Numbers. We'll take the first 10 minutes to review numbers through Kahoot. We'll attempt to sign through the numbers to a very fast paced counting sound and see how high we get. We'll end by playing "Clap and Snap the 7's," a fun counting game that deals with math, speed, and coordination. In future weeks, we'll get into foods, colors, animals, and hobbies.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their signing ability and learn new signs along the way.

Sources
Sometimes students will be asked to look through Handspeak's Reverse ASL dictionary to find signs for a particular game. This is an extremely helpful source allowing students to find signs that correspond with the five parameters of ASL and enhance not only gameplay, but ASL vocabulary knowledge. I may share the link in the Zoom classroom's chat. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to review the site link before signing up for the class.

We will view videos from 5-Guys ASL YouTube channel. Link: https://www.youtube.com/@5GuysASL/videos
We'll also play Kahoot during some class sessions. https://kahoot.it/

I have been learning American Sign Language since my introduction to the visual language at age two and have taught beginning ASL to 5-12-year-olds at a local homeschool coop for the past three years. I've also learned a host of ASL games through attending ASL meetups and deaf events and I love using games as an opportunity for students to learn.
