Description

Class Experience

In this installment of ASL Food Fest, we are learning 10 fruits from apples to bananas and more, split into two groups of five. We'll use pictures, props, and lots of repetition along the way. We will practice correct ASL form as we sign the words and learn more about the signs themselves. Finally, you'll learn how to sign: "My favorite fruit is _____."

Students will:
*learn the proper ASL sign for ten fruits, plus one sentence
*apply this knowledge to match pictures/props
*interact with their peers in a small group setting

ASL has been an interest of mine for as long as I can remember. Please note, I am not a sign language interpreter or teacher, nor am I Deaf, but I have completed two semesters of sign language courses, as well as ongoing self-study. As a public school teacher, I taught an ASL mini-course to middle school aged students, focusing on fingerspelling, and vocabulary practice.

There are so many ASL resources out there from books to YouTube videos to other Outschool classes. I encourage anyone interested in sign language to keep learning! It's a fascinating topic to study.
