Class Experience

This class is a fun on-going camp that will run from June to the beginning of September. This course is designed for new to ASL learners as we will learn beginners signs. In this camp, students will meet twice-a-week and learn a variety of signs. Students will learn how to introduce themselves, the ASL alphabet, numbers, colors, family/people signs, food signs, basic every day phrases, sports and activities, weather, verbs, adjectives and more! This camp is a great way to get a feel for the language and prepare for my ASL classes that run during the school year. It is also a great way to continue to work on signing skills through the summer and maintain ASL skills and knowledge. Each class will have fun activities related to signing. I like to play brain break games and use our signs as we play them. We will also have weeks where we will have show and tell and learn signs related to what we all share with the class. Since this class is an on-going course, students are able to join and leave the class at any time. Students do not have to start at the beginning of the course. We will not build on previous knowledge. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions about ASL and how to sign different signs. In this camp, we will have a topic each week and learn and practice signs related to that topic. Students will learn about the deaf and hard-of-hearing culture as well. I am fluent in ASL as I have profoundly deaf parents and have been signing my whole life. Because of this, I am passionate about teaching the world ASL and truly enjoy teaching this enriching language. I have years experience teaching, working with students of all ages and a BA degree.
I look forward to sharing and enjoying this language with you!
