Homework
1 hour per week. Although there will not be any formal homework assignments in this class, students will be encouraged to practice the new vocabulary words and principles of ASL grammar in between classes. Textbook has many fun activities in the back of the book!
Assessment
Assessment will be ongoing. It is very important that the student leave the camera open during class since this is a visual language.

Class Experience

US Grade 1
REVISED! The course will begin by teaching the ASL alphabet, numbers, colors, days and some basic principles of ASL. The class size will be limited to 6 learners so that ample attention can be given to each individual. Class participation is an integral part of this learning experience and students are encouraged to practice using their ASL skills outside of class. I have chosen to use Sign Language For Kids Activity Book by Tara Adams for this class.  It had excellent illustrations for each sigh I will teach and also has fun activities that students can do outside of class to practice what we are learning.

Class 1: ABC, Introduction ASL and Guidelines for fingerspelling (pgs 2-3)
Class 2: Numbers, Signing Basics part 1 (pgs 4-9)

Class 1: Basics part 2, Home, Family, Pets (10-19)

                            Describe your favorites! (toy, food, drink using adjectives in lesson)

Class 1:  Animals on the Farm and in the Field
                            (OS Teacher prepared materials)
                            Animal charades (guess the animal)
                            Describe the animal using size, color or special characteristic of that animal
Class 2:  Animals in the Zoo
                            (OS Teacher prepared materials)
                            Animal charades (guess the animal)
                            Describe the animal using size, color or special characteristics of that animal

This is written on the appropriate level for a young learner and will be used in class and as a reference and practice book outside of class.
