It is encouraged that learners practice the signs we learn. The more you do the signs, the easier they are to remember! If your child practices a couple of times a day, it will come more naturally.

Class Experience

👋Come along with me on an exciting and interactive safari adventure! Let's learn safari animal signs in ASL with movement, songs, and games! No previous ASL knowledge is required just a willingness to learn!

In this class, we will learn 10-12 animals signs including:
🐅Tiger, 🐘 Elephant,🐾 Cheetah, 🦒Giraffe, 🦓 Zebra, 🐒Monkey, 🦘Kangaroo,🐊 Alligator, 🐍Snake, 🐢Turtle, 🦅Birds

On this safari adventure, we will move together and incorporate movement and sounds into learning each animal sign. Please make sure your student has adequate clear space for movements and water available if needed. We will play games like guess that animal, move like a ___ (ex: the teacher will show the sign of a monkey), and "I Spy" and sing songs along the way! If time permits, we will also learn how to sign simple sentences related to the animal such as "I like elephants". This class provides learners the space to learn a new language and animals signs in ASL as well as strengthen their social and fine motor skills!

I am so looking forward to meeting and teaching your learner soon!

🧠Why learn ASL? Benefits of Learning American Sign Language
•Develops gross and fine motor skills
•Foster early language development
•Assists with letter recognition
•Helps build vocabulary
•Promotes better awareness and sensitivity to the deaf and hard of hearing community
•Develops focus and concentration
•Boosts self-confidence
•Supports letter and word recall
•Strengthen memory and problem-solving skills
•Strengthen teacher/caregiver bonding
•Fosters a love of learning

📓Class policy: Since ASL is a visual language each student must have their camera on during this class so that I can help them with the correct hand forms and locations, this is an essential part of learning in this course. Students will also be engaging and practicing their ASL signs and their hands must be seen for this.

Additional Notes:
Many signs have multiple versions, similar to regional words in English. In this class, I will teach the versions that I was taught, but you may see a different sign for the same word in classes with other teachers.
While I have significant knowledge of ASL, I am a part of the hearing community and have different experiences than those of the deaf community. If you are seeking a truly immersive ASL learning experience, I highly encourage you to learn with Deaf teachers on Outschool or in your community.
Learning Goals
In this class, students will learn more about animals and their signs and be able to interact and learn with other students. The goal of this class is for students to gain further knowledge of American Sign Language and signs, improving their ASL vocabulary, grammar, and conversation skills. This class can contribute toward building a foundation in ASL that they can further develop.
