ASL Interpreting Class Overview Class Description: Join our ASL Interpreting Class, designed for students looking to enhance their sign language skills in a fun and supportive environment. This class is intended to provide information and practice to improve and strengthen your ASL interpreting abilities. Please note that this class is for practice purposes only and not intended to certify you as a professional interpreter. ### **January 2025** ❄️ - **Week of Jan 6:** *Community Events* - Signs for public spaces (parks, libraries, etc.). - Activity: Role-play interpreting a local event announcement. - **Week of Jan 13:** *Fingerspelling Proficiency* - Practice names, brands, and technical terms. - Activity: Speed fingerspelling challenge. - **Week of Jan 20:** *Interpreting for Children* - Learn playful language and child-friendly signs. - Activity: Interpret a children’s storybook. - **Week of Jan 27:** *ASL Grammar and Structure* - Compare ASL syntax vs. English grammar. - Activity: Rephrase English sentences into ASL. ### **February 2025** ❤️ - **Week of Feb 3:** *Educational Settings* - Signs used in classrooms and academic terms. - Activity: Simulate interpreting a science lecture. - **Week of Feb 10:** *Valentine’s Day Theme* - Romantic and emotional vocabulary. - Activity: Interpret a love poem or greeting card message. - **Week of Feb 17:** *Cultural Events and Performances* - Learn signs for arts, music, and theater. - Activity: Practice interpreting a song or play excerpt. - **Week of Feb 24:** *Emergency Situations* - Vocabulary for crises and public safety. - Activity: Mock interpreting a fire drill or emergency alert. --- ### **March 2025**. 🍀 - **Week of Mar 3:** *Religious Services* - Signs related to spirituality and worship. - Activity: Interpret a short sermon or prayer. - **Week of Mar 10:** *Sports and Recreation* - Sports vocabulary and fan interactions. - Activity: Simulate interpreting a sports commentary. - **Week of Mar 17:** *St. Patrick’s Day Fun* - Themed vocabulary and idioms. - Activity: Interpret a St. Patrick’s Day riddle or joke. - **Week of Mar 24:** *Television and Media* - Terms for news, shows, and advertisements. - Activity: Interpret a commercial or news segment. - **Week of Mar 31:** *Legal Settings* - Basic legal vocabulary and courtroom etiquette. - Activity: Mock interpreting a court testimony. --- ### **April 2025**. ☔️ - **Week of Apr 7:** *Technical Fields (STEM)* - Signs for technology, engineering, and science. - Activity: Interpret a short tech tutorial. - **Week of Apr 14:** *Travel and Transportation* - Signs for airports, trains, and travel plans. - Activity: Simulate interpreting a travel itinerary. - **Week of Apr 21:** *Idioms and Expressions* - Learn common ASL idioms and their meanings. - Activity: Match English phrases to their ASL equivalents. - **Week of Apr 28:** *Deaf Culture Spotlight* - Explore cultural nuances and famous Deaf figures. - Activity: Present a short biography of a Deaf leader. --- ### **May 2025** 🎓 - **Week of May 5:** *Workplace Scenarios* - Signs for office settings and professional terms. - Activity: Role-play interpreting a job interview. - **Week of May 12:** *Graduation and Celebrations* - Celebrate achievements and practice related vocabulary. - Activity: Interpret a graduation speech. - **Week of May 19:** *Interpreting in Teams* - Learn teamwork strategies for interpreting. - Activity: Group interpreting exercise with relay interpreting. - **Week of May 26:** *Final Showcase and Review* - Review the semester’s highlights and practice interpreting skills. - Activity: Students interpret a live or pre-recorded event for peer feedback.

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students. We utilize a variety of communication methods to ensure that every child's needs are met, including captions, chat, visual aids, and sign language.

Several of our teachers are Deaf, bringing invaluable perspectives and authentic experiences to our program. This diversity enhances our teaching approach, providing students with a deeper understanding and appreciation of American Sign Language and Deaf culture.
Ms.Trina is the founder of ASL Kids Club and has over 20 years of experience teaching and working in school districts with both Deaf and hearing children. This extensive background has allowed her to hand-select each teacher to ensure that students receive top-tier instruction.
Our educators boast impressive credentials and experiences:
- One teacher has spent over two decades as an Educational Interpreter and Tutor, working closely with deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Their passion for sign language is driven by personal experiences with Deaf family members.
- Another teacher is proficient in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, American Sign Language, and Nicaraguan Sign Language. With over 10 years of teaching experience, they have served in various roles such as teaching, assisting, and mentoring students and interpreters.
- We also have a Deaf educator with expertise in speech, lipreading, and sign language. Their patience and kindness have positively impacted many students through their work as a tutor and assistant teacher at the School for the Deaf.
Together, our team is committed to providing an enriching ASL learning experience that accommodates diverse backgrounds and fosters growth.
