For centuries, Asian Americans have been underrepresented in Hollywood film and television, facing discrimination and the harmful practice of yellowface. Anna Wong boldly showed the world that Asian Americans are more than capable actors and paved the way for diversity and representation in Hollywood. In this class, students will learn about the trailblazing actress who broke barriers as America's first Asian film star. We will talk about her life story, from facing challenges because of her race to becoming a symbol of strength and change in Hollywood. Students will learn how she fought for better representation of Asians in films, and why her legacy still matters today. Through fun lessons, videos, and discussions, students will get a clear picture of her impact on the entertainment world. By the end, you'll have a whole new understanding of her and why diversity in movies is so important. It is important to know that I am very honest in my classes. I don't sugarcoat history but I truthfully tell it in an age-appropriate manner. I like my classes to be interactive, so there will be many opportunities to participate in class discussions. Each student will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. Participation is encouraged but not required. If you have any questions about the class or suggestions please send a message. This class could possibly go over 30 minutes, it is important to give each student the opportunity to speak and ask questions.
