This course connects art and literature, and is perfect for students of any artistic ability level. To begin, students will listen to a read-aloud of the book, "The Dot," and discuss the characters and plot of the story. Vashti, the main character of the story, feels like she is not talented in art. Her teacher encourages her try her best, and eventually Vashti uncovers her own unique artistic style: dots! After discussing the book, students will practice drawing different kinds of lines,...
Students will apply a variety of lines to create unique designs inspired by "The Dot." Students will demonstrate the proper use of watercolor paints. Students will talk about their art using vocabulary words.
PAPER: White paper from an art pad, 12"x18" or comparable size, but no smaller than 8"x10." Cardstock can be substituted, but thin copy paper will not work with the paint. BLACK OIL PASTEL: A black crayon can be substituted if necessary WATERCOLOR PAINTS PAINTBRUSH CUP OF WATER PAPER TOWELS SMOCK OR APRON: An old T-shirt can be substituted
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will read the book, "The Dot," by Peter Reynolds. Students do NOT need to have the book at home.
