In the "Artsy History" series, we learn a bit about the time period and discuss specific artists and then create an artwork based on the period. Video clips and museum images are used to introduce the lesson. Then students will work along with me to create their own artwork inspired by the artist. Graffiti. Is it art or is it vandalism? Learn where graffiti originated and how to use some of the style in your own artwork. This class will look at some examples of graffiti and its controversial beginnings. After a short discussion, students will learn how to create different forms of "typography," or lettering, while focusing on a positive word to describe themselves. Then we will learn how to use line and value to create a textured background or wall. Prior knowledge of art history is not necessary. I teach aspects of this series to students in grades 4-8.
