Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
Arts-Based Piano Lessons (Ages 7 to 12 | Ongoing | 15min)

Arts-Based Piano Lesson is offered as ongoing (15min or 25min) class.

In this 15min ongoing weekly piano lessons, I will create a personalized arts-based piano curriculum to meet the student's individual interests, goals, and musical experiences.

The arts-based piano curriculum is developed from my doctoral research and we will be integrating piano improvisation, storybooks, drawings, and/or poetry to our weekly lessons to inspire and support meaningful, joyful and creative ways of learning to play the piano.

To apply music theory into performing practice, we will also learn to read and write music notation by composing our own melodies and rhythm.

Depending on the student's musical background and interests, our lessons will combine a variety of arts-based activities (i.e., piano improvisation, stories, drawings, and/or poetry), piano techniques, classical and contemporary repertoire, and music theory and composition.

The total number of lessons per term is flexible and we can discuss lesson schedule that will work best for your family. As an ongoing class, students will be able to join, stop subscription for the specific week(s) and/or re-join throughout the term.

🎶 If none of the available class days/times work for you, please message me the schedule that will work best for your family and it will be wonderful to discuss with you 🎶

Dear Outschool students and parents,

Thank you for your interest in my arts-based piano and applied music theory classes and I’m so happy to be exploring creative ways of exploring music and piano playing with the Outschool community.

I am a pianist, teacher, and educational researcher with over 20 years of music and piano teaching experiences. I completed my PhD in Curriculum Studies, specializing in music education and arts-based research methodologies.

Based on my doctoral research, I have been developing my own arts-based piano and music theory curriculum that integrate piano improvisation, stories, poems, and/or drawings to encourage, support, and inspire children’s own unique, individual ways of exploring music and learning to play the piano.

In our piano classes, we will learn to play the piano by creating our own music, improvise new sound effects on the piano to accompany the storybooks, read/write poetry as inspirations for our piano playing, and lots of drawings to express our musical ideas.

In our theory classes, we will learn to read, write, and compose our own beautiful melodies and harmonies together.

If you have any questions and/or would like more information about my current and/or upcoming new piano and theory classes, please contact me and I'm happy to connect with you.

Thank you everyone and I look forward to creating many beautiful, fun music, drawings, poems, and stories with you!

Happy piano playing and music writing~
