Do you take sack lunches to the park, or perhaps the zoo? Well, save your sack for this class! Together we are going to make turkeys out of paper lunch bags! We will begin with a short lesson on the history of turkeys and Thanksgiving. We will then begin making paper turkeys. I will show them, step by step, how to make their turkeys. We will begin with the bag, which is the turkey's body. After I show them by example, I will give students time to complete the step and ask any questions about what to do. Next, we will make feet, beak, and waddle. Then we will make the eyes. Once all of those pieces are glued onto the turkey's body, we will make the feathers (2 of each color, so 10 total). This part is time consuming. I will coach the students along as we complete our turkeys. Every year, my students have lots of laughs and fun conversation while making these turkeys. They are a great conversation starter and a fun centerpiece for the kitchen table. There will be much interaction with me and with the other students! This is not a quiet class. Visiting and helping each other is highly encouraged. We will have lots of fun in this class! It would be good if students have had some experience with cutting paper and using glue before making these turkeys.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to create a unique piece of art, as no 2 turkeys ever look alike!
