Feel free to send me a message with any questions anytime : ) *** In the first week, learners will first consider briefly about the history of Still Life and then many forms of it throughout history from Classical to Contemporary. Students explore concepts of composition and consider the altering effect of changing arrangements in scale, height, and texture and viewpoint. Students will have homework to gather three to four objects that are meaningful to them that they would like to use in their Still life for homework. In week two, learners will explore different arrangements of their objects considering the information explored in the previous class. They will set up and light their still life. Students will explore different viewpoints and discuss the importance of composition and light source. They will do some sketches of their still life to find the best angle during and after class. In week three, learners will decide on the best angle for their still life and begin the draft of their final. They will layout their artwork on their final paper and begin their final line drawing. They will share their progress and get feedback from the class. In week four, learners work on establishing the value of their work by rendering in black and white. They will share their progress with the class and get feedback. They should complete most of their drawing during this time.
Learning Goals
Students will understand the context of Still Life drawing and more about the technical skill required to execute an effective drawing.

Paper 8 1/2" x 11" Paper 8 1/2 x 11" card stock or white construction paper HB pencils objects for still life light source draping material (optional)

In addition to being a world traveled artist and educator, Amy Pollman has a MFA and MED in Art Education. She is a certified Visual Arts Teacher K-12 from the Ohio Department of Education. Currently she is a University Mentor of Art Education at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio and also is an Instructor of Art at Monroe County Community College in Monroe, MI. She recently returned from China where she was teaching Art as a method of language development. For the past twenty years, she has taught students all over the world from Kindergarten to College. She is knowledgeable, resourceful, passionate about art making.
