Your learner will receive oral feedback during the class in the form of positive and gentle correction of pronunciation and grammar and support in understanding and discussion of imagery. They will also receive written feedback to encourage them in their quest for fluency in English and their understanding of art and the history of art.Class Experience
In this ongoing class students will develop their English fluency by identifying the formal qualities of artworks. They will use the language of composition to discuss how visual elements and principles appear and are applied to the work of Edgar Degas and other artists. Learners will be encouraged and supported when responding to the artists' work using the vocabulary and images introduced to them within the lesson. By looking at the artists' work, and hearing about the contexts within which they were created, students will also learn about the ideas and intensions behind the artwork. Your learner will be encouraged to participate. Correct English will be gently reinforced in positive and constructive way. Not only will your learner develop English language speaking skills and vocabulary, they will also learn about the history of art. Week 1 - Degas' Horses Week 2 - Degas' Dancers Week 3 - Degas' Hats Week 4 - Degas' Circus
Learning Goals
Learners will develop their English language speaking skills and expand their vocabulary while talking about art. They will develop their understanding of composition using visual elements and principles to discuss art works. Visual elements are; colour, value, shape, form, line, texture and space. Visual principles are; contrast, movement, unity (harmony), emphasis (focal point), pattern and rhythm. Learners will also learn about a range of art processes as well as the context of the works they discuss and the intention of that particular artist or art movement. Contextual information can be personal, societal, political, cultural and/or historical. I will encourage your learner to use their voice to respond to art and to develop their fluency in the language of visual composition.
