US Grade 2 - 5
In Space Art Camp, students will embark on an intergalactic adventure where creativity meets the cosmos! Over the course of the camp, they will explore the wonders of space through various artistic techniques, including watercolor, drawing, and acrylic painting. Each class will feature a space-related theme, from starry skies to distant planets, as students learn to create their own cosmic masterpieces. Each day, we’ll start with a fun, engaging lesson on space and art, followed by hands-on art creation. Students will experiment with different mediums, learn about shading, blending, and the use of color to bring their space-themed visions to life. The camp will encourage exploration of different artistic styles, from abstract to realistic interpretations of galaxies, planets, and stars. Throughout the camp, students will work on building their skills in a supportive, creative environment, where they can share their work, ask questions, and receive feedback. The class is designed for all skill levels, and each artist will be able to develop their unique style while gaining confidence in their artistic abilities. By the end of the camp, students will have a collection of stunning space-themed art to showcase and a deeper understanding of both art techniques and the universe beyond!
Learning Goals
Master Artistic Techniques: Students will develop their skills in watercolor, drawing, and acrylic painting, learning techniques like blending, shading, and color theory to create dynamic space-themed artwork.
Explore Creativity and Space Concepts: Students will deepen their understanding of space through art, exploring celestial bodies, galaxies, and other cosmic themes, while applying these concepts to their creative projects.
Syllabus
4 Lessons
over 1 WeekLesson 1:
Watercolor Galaxy Paper
Students will create a galaxy background by blending watercolors (mainly black, blue, and purple). After the watercolor dries, they will splatter white tempera paint to simulate stars, creating a cosmic effect.
Learning Focus: Watercolor techniques, color blending, and splattering for texture, as well as learning about galaxies and space.

Lesson 2:
Shaded Planet Collages
Overview: Students will draw a series of spheres, focusing on shading techniques to create spherical shapes with depth and value. After shading, they will cut out the spheres and arrange them on a black background to create a space scene.
Learning Focus: Shading techniques, understanding value and light sources, and assembling artwork into a cohesive composition.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Astronaut in Space Drawing
Overview: Students will follow guided steps to draw an astronaut in space, focusing on line techniques. Then, they will create a background using markers to enhance their astronaut drawing and create a sense of space.
Learning Focus: Line drawing techniques, creating depth with backgrounds, and using markers to enhance details.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Acrylic Martian Landscape
Overview: Using acrylic paint, students will create a Martian landscape, exploring the use of warm and cool colors to represent different environments. Students will experiment with mixing colors and creating depth in their painting.

Learning Needs
Ms. Crocker has experience teaching students with a variety of learning needs, and will happily accommodate all kinds of learners in the classroom. Please let me know ahead of time if your learner requires significant differentiation.
Parental Guidance
This class involves the use of scissors, glue, and paint! It is helpful to have an area where students can create without risking damaging your home.
If your child is still mastering the use of scissors, I recommend providing child-safe scissors for these activities or assisting them with cutting activities.
