Class Experience
In this one-time class, students will use mixed media to create a giant wave in the ocean. The students will also learn about the painting “The Great Wave” by Hokusai via a Google Slides presentation and class discussion. The teacher will interact with each student throughout the class and monitor their progress. The students will follow along with the teacher step-by-step using the teacher’s document camera. * The students will learn about the artist Katsushika Hokusai and his famous painting, “The Great Wave”. *The students will learn how to create a giant wave in the ocean using mixed media. *The students will learn how to use watercolor paints. *The students will learn different brush stroke techniques. *The students will engage in listening skills *The students will engage in socialization skills
*Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education *NJ State Certified K-6 Elementary Teacher *NJ State Certified K-12 Fine Arts Teacher *17 years teaching in a public elementary school *40+ years teaching and working with children *I have 2 daughters (ages 7 & 10)
1 file available upon enrollment*9”x12” white watercolor paper (Heavyweight is best) *A watercolor paint set (a set that includes light & dark blue) *1 small container filled with water *1 medium-size square-top paintbrush (I will be using a #12 brush) *a paper towel *A small container of white acrylic paint *Crayons *1 pencil *1 eraser
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
