Art of Geometry: Draw, Shade, and Create Realistic Art Using Basic Shapes

In this ongoing class, learners will use household items to create specific drawings. Household items can include:
~Anything to draw circles (lids, jars, a compass, etc.) 
~Something to draw lines (ruler, straight edge) 
~Pencils 
~Erasers 
~Paper
~Optional, but useful: colored pencils, pens, crayons, or markers 

Each weekly class will focus on a different type of drawing, including mandalas, optical illusions, cityscapes, and patterns, so learners can join any class at any time! Learners will be able to upload their final drawings and sketches to our class Padlet if they choose. I like for students to engage and interact with me and each other if they choose, so there will be plenty of discussions about shapes within drawings as well as sketching and shading techniques. We will be identifying a variety of 2- and 3-dimensional shapes within drawings while also learning new shapes. We will play short games during some classes so I can assess their learning during the class.

Learners do not need to know how to draw already. It would be helpful if they can identify a circle, square, rectangle, and triangle. We will be learning some other shapes specific to each class. Students do need to be able to use a pencil to trace around or draw beside an object, such as a jar lid or a ruler.

Week of March 6, 2023: Butterfly Mandala

Note: Even if two weeks have the same class title, students will receive a slightly different drawing in those two classes.
