What's included

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each class (with the exception of class 8) will have 2-4 homework assignments that correlate with that weeks topic. This could be to write your own poetry or short story, read and summarize, listen to composition, or to research similar artists. During the course, students will work together on writing a short play surrounding these amazing artists. If there is only one student enrolled, the project will be adapted to students interest.

Class Experience

In this class we will explore the world of some of the greatest composers, writers, and artists in history. We will discuss their childhood, their influences, and what they did that left a mark on history. We will discuss the differences between them, and how the time period that they lived shaped their artistic creations. We will explore their legacy, influence, unique style. 

Week 1 - Charles Dickens - English Writer
Week 2 - Edgar Degas - French Artist
Week 3 - Aaron Copland - American Composer
Week 4- Dorothy Parker - American Poet
Week 5 - Charlotte Bronte - English Writer
Week 6 - Camille Saint-Saens - French Composer
Week 7 - Teresa Carreno - Venezuelan Composer
Week 8 - Katsushika Hokusai - Japanese Painter


Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) -

-I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page.  
-  Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets. These will be posted on the classroom page. 
- In my flex classes, each family can determine the level of participation in the course. 
- Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom.  
-I will check in with each student several times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Each student is encouraged to message (through the Outschool classroom) me anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class.  
- Each week, there may be additional articles, videos, or pictures that will be posted to the classroom page to engage students in open conversations about that weeks topic.

Parental Guidance
This class will cover a variety of artists. Some of the topics that will be covered in an age appropriate manner are discrimination, sexism, and racism. This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions.  I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.

I am also an Outschool ACE Educator, which means that I continually seek out ways to improve my teaching skills and knowledge, as well as the learner experience.
