Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
In this class, students will learn about the concept of coordinates through fun Winter's holidays activities.

We will include the following activities:
- warm up,
we will explain how to plot points on the coordinate system (I quadrant), as well as how to read the coordinates of a pint that is already plotted. 5 min,
- main activity I,
completing the holiday balsam tree, I will let them know which points they should plot, and I will guide through the process. 20 min,
- main activity II,
coloring and decorating their holiday balsam tree, discussing about the x-axis and y-axis. 15 min
- closing up notes and sharing impressions approx. 5 min.
If there is one student enrolled there is quite a big chance that because the student will have my undivided attention we will actually we will finish 5-10 min earlier.

I will share some Fun Facts about balsam tree, height,(meters), life-span (years and decades) etc. I will encourage students' discussion on these units.

They will get a worksheet, that should be printed prior class. I will share the same worksheet on my screen, and will guide them to find their points (x and y coordinates). Then, we will complete the holiday tree, and finally they will color it.
Learners can discuss and share ideas between themselves.

(Prerequisite Skills) Students should to be able:
- recognize letters,
- list numbers up to 20,
- differ between left side and right side,
- know the difference between shape and line,
- counting on number line up to 20,
- draw and color independently.
Learning Goals
While having fun, students will work on:

- building up their math skill on plotting points on coordinate grid,
- learning what does coordinate point means, and that (1,2) does not represent the same point as (2,1).
- improving their spatial visualization skills,
- refining hand-eye coordination,
- improving their concentration,
- boosting their brain activity,
- encouraging systematic thinking,
- improving their problem-solving skills and
- building their confidence.

My rich experience allows me to effectively assess student's challenging areas and focus on them. I always give students space and encourage them to share their opinions and thoughts.
My approach is an easy and fun way for students to enhance their math comprehension.
I believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn how to cherish and love math.
