This Multy-Day class for fluent Spanish speaking learners will involve conversations over works of art, short teacher presentations about Picasso and Romero Britto, as well as instructions on drawing and coloring. During each lesson, I will conduct the class in Spanish and I will direct student's drawing and the activities using vocabulary relevant to the appreciation, elements and principles of art. Students will be encouraged to express their opinions and share their works as they progress on different parts of the project. Prior knowledge of Spanish is required, students must understand spoken Spanish as I will be speaking and asking questions in Spanish. This class provides an opportunity to review previous Spanish knowledge and, hopefully, incorporate new words or phrases into their language repertoire. Depending on students needs and progress, they might need extra time completing work after classes. Agenda: Day 1: Picasso. Artist introduction. Learn about his portraits and create a surprise cubist portrait. Day 2: Complete Picasso drawing. If we have time, start Romero Britto's introduction (time depends on factors, such as numbers of students in the class, and their own progress). Day 3: Romero Britto. Artist introduction. Gain inspiration from his paintings, class discussion. Proceed to color. Day 4: Finish our coloring phase. Review what we have learned. Share drawings with class. Please, download handout.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome to my profile. I love art and design and have a passion for my native language, Spanish. I was born in Ecuador, I have lived in the Dominican Republic and in Costa Rica. I have travelled to many countries and developed a deep appreciation for other cultures. My experience with distance teaching comes after working for over 15 years in the public school system teaching Spanish levels K-12. I hold an English as a Second Language certification, an Associate in Graphic Design (Altos de Chavon School of Design in the Dominican Republic, affiliate to Parsons), a Bachelor in General Studies with a concentration in Art (Harding University, Arkansas) and a Master of Visual Communication Design (Liberty University, Virginia, PA). I have experience working as a graphic designer, but I love to illustrate.
During my free time I like to work on different art projects through painting, sculpting, or doing digital work. I love cooking, I like to do yoga, and I greatly enjoy conversing with my Spanish speaking friends.
I will guide the students’ learning in a relaxed but focused atmosphere. I believe that since we all are unique individuals with different backgrounds, my teaching must adapt to a variety of styles and approaches. I incorporate TPR (Total Physical Response) when needed.
Looking forward to seeing you in my classes. Let’s learn Spanish language, culture & art together!
