In this class, students will learn the fun beginnings of how to create an Art Journal! We will start by creating 2 pages, with a bright theme using shapes, patterns, and motifs. Students will learn how to create motifs and re-occurring patterns, and how to layer with watercolors. They'll learn about mixing media and will be always encouraged to experiment and make their own artistic choices. Once the project is complete students can optionally share and talk through their art! Although the idea is to create pages in an existing Art Journal, students do not need to have one to enjoy this class, single sheets of paper are totally great! I'll also cover how to bind single sheets together with a hole punch and a tie! My teaching style is mellow, and calm, and my classes are a safe space for kids to explore their creativity with no right or wrong answers. Learners may ask questions, or interact with each other if comfortable. No prior art experience is necessary. - Parents if you don't see a time that works for you request it!

Students will learn there is no right or wrong way to create art. Students will learn to make creative choices, and how to layer and create patterned motifs.

Supply List
Parents! Please do not go out and buy expensive materials, most of this list can be purchased at the local dollar store. Students should try to have on hand... 1. Paints and brushes (any kind, any palette) - I'll be using watercolors and acrylics. 2. Crayons, or coloring pencils. 3. 1 inky black pen (thin Sharpie, or similar) 4. Single sheet paper (any size, multiple sheets) or A Blank page Journal (any size), Mixed Media Paper is Ideal (but do not sweat this!) 6. Paper towel for spills

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
