What's included
3 live meetings
2 in-class hoursClass Experience
During our first meeting students will receive an overview of artist Joan Miro's life and artistic work. We will observe and discuss selected pieces, followed by a drawing activity to reinforce our observational skills. We will learn about Abstract art and Surrealist art, Miro's iconography and explore expressing symbolism of our own. On the second day, we will continue discovering Surrealism and will also focus on his use of line and color and discuss possible techniques for our artwork. We will initiate the sketch of our subject and discuss possible techniques to treat the background. We will discuss interesting games Surrealist artists used to practice. Finally, in our last meeting, we will aim to complete our work, review what we have learned and get more insight into Miro's interesting life and the Surrealist movement. By the end of the course the students not only create a unique and personal work of art, but they gain understanding of Miró's work and his interpretation of the world in the context of the Surrealism and other art movements of the time. **Students must be fluent Spanish learners and will have opportunities to engage in class discussions if they wish to participate. Native fluent speakers are more than welcome to join, as they can help enrich the learning experience for all, along with nurturing their own language! PLEASE NOTE: Class length could take longer, depending on number of students and student's progress. After each class, extra time could be needed to complete artwork. Media and scale of their artwork will also affect time outside class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome to my profile. I love art and design and have a passion for my native language, Spanish. I was born in Ecuador, I have lived in the Dominican Republic and in Costa Rica. I have travelled to many countries and developed a deep appreciation for other cultures. My experience with distance teaching comes after working for over 15 years in the public school system teaching Spanish levels K-12. I hold an English as a Second Language certification, an Associate in Graphic Design (Altos de Chavon School of Design in the Dominican Republic, affiliate to Parsons), a Bachelor in General Studies with a concentration in Art (Harding University, Arkansas) and a Master of Visual Communication Design (Liberty University, Virginia, PA). I have experience working as a graphic designer, but I love to illustrate.
During my free time I like to work on different art projects through painting, sculpting, or doing digital work. I love cooking, I like to do yoga, and I greatly enjoy conversing with my Spanish speaking friends.
I will guide the students’ learning in a relaxed but focused atmosphere. I believe that since we all are unique individuals with different backgrounds, my teaching must adapt to a variety of styles and approaches. I incorporate TPR (Total Physical Response) when needed.
Looking forward to seeing you in my classes. Let’s learn Spanish language, culture & art together!
