🎨 Welcome to Art History 🎨 Have you ever been to an Art Gallery and thought….”boring!” Wait just one second! Art was created by people just like you and I! Artists have good days and bad, they experienced joy, sadness, attended weddings and funerals. Some experienced homelessness, and sold everything to afford their supplies. Every artist had something that they wanted to say, they all had a story to tell, and that story is being told to you. Artists didn’t ask that us to love their art, they don’t even ask that we like it … they just asked that we stop and look, and think. In this class, I will never ask you to love the art we are looking at but, instead, approach it with an open mind and through the lens of understanding who the artist was and what they were trying to say. Each week, as we discover the life of the artist, we will learn to appreciate art and stretch our understanding of what art is and what it means to us and how it can enrich our lives. This class serves as a wonderful supplement to any arts or architecture studies. ⭐️ For Credit Option ⭐️ You are able to count it as one credit, by completing the optional weekly quizzes, provided upon request, and attending throughout the school year. 🪴 Each Week 🪴 Each week we will cover one artist and/or art style. We will look at famous examples of the artist’s work and learn about the history of that time period and how it might have influenced the artist and his work. There are optional quizzes that may be completed each week, and monthly tests, if you wish to take this class for credit. ✏️ Supplies ✏️ If supplies are needed they will be posted in the classroom prior to the class, but most classes just require the student to come as they are! I would recommend a dedicated ring binder, as well as a dedicated notebook and pencil be brought to each class. Paintings that we discussed in class will be posted in the classroom along with notes from the artist we covered each week so that students may review after class. 📆 Schedule 📆 2024 ➕Week of August 23: Claude Monet ➕Week of August 30: Pierre-Auguste Renoir ➕Week of September 1: Jackson Pollock ➕Week of September 8: Diego Rivera ➕Week of September 15: Mary Cassatt ➕Week of September 22: Georgia O’Keefe ➕Week of September 29: Michelangelo ➕Week of October 6: Toulouse-Lautrec ➕Week of October 13: El Greco ➕Week of October 20: Edward Hopper ➕Week of October 27: Frida Kahlo ➕Week of November 3: Rosa Bonheur ➕Week of November 10: Leonardo da Vinci ➕Week of November 17: Vincent Van Gogh ➕Week of November 24: Paul Gauguin ➕Week of December 1: Henri Matisse ➕Week of December 8: Pablo Picasso ➕Week of December 15: Edgar Degas ➕Week of December 22: Rembrandt 2025 ➕Week of January 7: Dutch School ➕Week of January 14: Pre-Raphaelites ➕Week of January 22: Cubism ➕Week of January 29: Modernism ➕Week of February 6: Impressionism ➕Week of February 13: Classical ➕Week of February 20: Dark & Light ➕Week of February 27: Baroque ➕Week of March 6: Post-Modernism ➕Week of March 13: Romanticism ➕Week of March 20: Contemporary ➕Week of March 27: Salvador Dalí ➕Week of April 4: Johannes Vermeer ➕Week of April 11: Andy Warhol ➕Week of April 18: Paul Cezanne ➕Week of April 25: Raphael ➕Week of May 2: Alexander Calder ➕Week of May 9: Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun ➕Week of May 16: Edward Hopper ➕Week of May 23: Francisco Goya ➕Week of May 30: Edouard Manet
