Students will learn about some major art movements (1850 & on) by observing and comparing artwork featuring cats, and then draw or color a cat in their favorite style.

In this one-time class, students will get an overview of some the major art history periods (from 1850 & on) by observing how cats were portrayed in these styles. We will look at many pieces of art featuring cats and talk about the characteristics of each style (some non-cat-related artwork will be included as well.) Students will understand what an "art movement" is, and be able to identify the basic characteristics of Realism, Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, and Pop Art.
Learners should have a piece of blank paper and something to draw with. Coloring supplies are optional.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
