Art History for Kids: Create Art Inspired by Important Art Movements Learn about the different characteristics of Western art movements and create some art of your own! To start class, students will learn about a style and important concepts of a new art movement. We will look at notable artwork and artists from that movement and identify different characteristics that are unique to that style of art. This will be done largely though a slide show while asking students about what they see. During this portion, each learner is given an opportunity to talk. Next, we will make artwork of our own inspired by that week's art. Some weeks will be done through directed drawing, but students are encouraged to make any changes they want to their work to make it unique to them. Other weeks learners will be given a drawing prompt based off of the artist work. Students will be asked questions about their work as they create to encourage plenty of interaction. In the last 5-10 minutes of class each learner will share their artwork. Some students will need time outside of class to finish their artwork. Teacher expertise and credentials
The two things I love most in life is art and teaching! I have a degree in art education and have lots of experience working with young students. I think that basic understanding of art techniques and theories are important things that students should learn to not only further their art skills but also to see the beauty in the world around them!
