Description

Class Experience

In this class, students will spend an hour exploring the newest fad on the art market--NFTs, or Non-Fungible Tokens. The class will start by discussing what an NFT actually is, how they are produced using blockchain technology similar to cryptocurrency, and what makes them unique. This will include a discussion of how the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdowns caused the market for digital art to explode. In this class students will learn how NFTs and blockchain technology works and the controversies surrounding this new art form.

I have been teaching art history for seven years now. I started my career teaching at the university level and in museums and have been teaching art history on Outschool since 2018. I developed this introductory series for middle and high schoolers so that they could have a foundation for talking about the arts earlier than at the college level and be exposed to history in a new way!

No homework. Additional resources for exploration available after class.

50 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.

Artworks may include images of nudity, violence, or religious imagery.

Students will be provided with outside resources after every class to elaborate on our lessons, available online. Sources used include university lectures, art historical websites and academic journals, and museum and gallery information.
