In this 4 session class, young art lovers will learn about the lives and works of four famous painters and will create their own masterpieces in the style of each of these artists.

In this 4 week class, young art lovers will learn about the lives and work of four famous artists; Georgia O'Keefe, Jackson Pollack, Henri Matisse, and Maud Lewis. Using the Charlotte Mason approach to artist study, we will examine carefully several of their masterpieces and discuss the techniques they used as well as how the paintings make us feel and what we like or dislike about them and why. Students will learn: -art appreciation -colour theory -various art techniques -history and geography concepts
No homework will be assigned, but learners are encouraged to do reading and painting on their own to learn more about the artists we study.
Lesson One: Oil pastels and/or chalk, Cardstock or construction paper, Black marker Lesson Two: An old toothbrush, Acrylic or watercolour paints, Cardstock or construction paper Lesson Three: Construction paper in various colours, Scissors, School glue Lesson Four: A thick piece of cardboard or wood about 8x10 or larger, Paintbrushes in several sizes, Acrylic paint in a variety of colours
Learners will be encouraged to share their opinions and artwork with their classmates.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The unsavory aspects of the personal lives of some of these artists will not be discussed in this class for young learners.
