“Principles for the Development of a Complete Mind: Study the science of art. Study the art of science. Develop your senses- especially learn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else.” - Leonardo Da Vinci

This class is the version for little kids ages 6 to 8 who are interested in art history and astronomy. (Note: For siblings or kids 9 and older, please check out the class that offers extensive explanations of the astronomic concepts with astrophysicist Guest Speaker, Dr. Breezy Ocana-Flaquer from the San Diego State University; this class is fascinating for older kids who have an interest in understanding the workings of the universe through astronomy.)

As shown by the icon for this class of a Star Nursery in the Universe and the sculpture of the Roman Goddess Urania, this class focuses on the inspiration of science in the arts. Class is offered in a semi private format, providing the child with a platform where exploration and expansion are nurtured, making interdisciplinary connections as done by the great thinkers and creators of our common human history.

Learner will discover that the arts and sciences have been closely intertwined since antiquity as can be appreciated by the fascinating connections between art history and astronomy, traveling from prehistorical cave paintings through ancient civilizations, exploring Stonehenge, a Mayan Observatory, while also learning about master artists and their masterpieces inspired by astronomy. In addition, the class will include the concepts of the Eastern mandalas, sculptures, artifacts, frescoes, stained glass windows, illuminated manuscripts, paintings, installations, and breathtaking images from the emerging genre of Space Art.

Class is structured with a welcome and introduction time; the slide presentation invites engagement in the form of questions, comments, discussions.

Class is taught in an inclusive, interactive way, in an environment that celebrates curiosity, and experiences learning as a fascinating, enriching, and kindness infused opportunity. Class size is kept small so Learner feels welcome to engage in the process.

For these reasons, and for gauging Learner's interest level being able to adjust accordingly, I require open mics and video in my classes so there is a sense of community and engagement with the material. In our mindful, semi-private class, Learner is asked to raise a hand when wishing to participate as this encourages grounding, patience and deep listening skills bringing with itself a myriad of benefits.

Class includes information from reputable primary sources making the material come to life in a meaningful way. In addition to being kid-friendly by following the history of art through a unifying theme, pedagogically speaking, having a centrally weaving subject helps the child organize the many artists and styles in a way that is clear and memory friendly.

No previous experience is required.
