In this class we will learn to draw simple, adorable cartoon animals! Each class we will focus on drawing a different animal using basic shapes and simple strokes. This class focuses on line drawing. No drawing experience is needed, but like all art experience is likely to result in more polished artwork. Perfect for beginner artists or more experienced learners who just love drawing animals! Colour will not be part of the lesson, but if there is time at the end of the lesson learners are welcome to add colour their art! When I teach, I draw step by step, with the learners. I find that demonstrating is the best way to teach art. The classes are independent of each other, so you do not need to take them consecutively. Learners can join at any point. Every week we will learn how to draw a new animal. I will also share a few cool facts about about each animal. Every class, learners will be required to bring 3 pieces of paper (or have a sketchbook), a pencil, and an eraser. A fine felt tipped pen is optional. Colour is also totally optional and can be done for homework, because we will not have time to colour in class. It is important to be on time, because I start the lesson promptly. If learners are more than 5 minutes late they will likely miss the first step of the drawing. I always mute my classes, but I encourage learners to unmute when they have questions or want feedback. I keep classes muted so learners can focus on me and the task at hand. Learners need to have a basic understanding of how to use zoom so they can unmute themselves as needed. I will encourage learners to share art when they need feedback when it is finished, but leanrers do not need to show me their art. I understand that art is personal and that not everyone is comfortable sharing work in front of a class. Here is a breakdown of what animals we will be doing week by week. ____ JUNGLE ANIMALS • Week of January 6, 2025: Learn how to draw an Elephant • Week of January 13, 2025: Learn how to draw a Giraffe • Week of January 20, 2025: Learn how to draw a Hippopotamus • Week of January 27, 2025: Learn how to draw a Gorilla • Week of February 3, 2025: Learn how to draw a Lion • Week of February 10, 2025: Learn how to draw an Ostrich ANIMALS IN COLD PLACES • Week of February 17, 2025: Learn how to draw a Polar Bear • Week of February 24, 2025: Learn how to draw a Penguin • Week of March 3, 2025: Learn how to draw an Arctic Fox • Week of March 10, 2025: Learn how to draw a Seal • Week of March 17, 2025: Learn how to draw a Caribou • Week of March 24, 2025: Learn how to draw a Snowy Owl FOREST ANIMALS • Week of March 31, 2025: Learn how to draw a Moose • Week of April 7, 2025: Learn how to draw a Bear • Week of April 14, 2025: Learn how to draw an Owl • Week of April 21, 2025: Learn how to draw a Squirrel • Week of April 28, 2025: Learn how to draw an Eagle • Week of May 5, 2025: Learn how to draw a Skunk ANIMALS OF ASIA • Week of May 12, 2025: Learn how to draw a Panda • Week of May 19, 2025: Learn how to draw a Malayan Tapir • Week of May 26, 2025: Learn how to draw a Red Panda • Week of June 2, 2025: Learn how to draw an Orangutan MYTHICAL CREATURES • Week of June 9, 2025: Learn how to draw a Dragon • Week of June 16, 2025: Learn how to draw a Unicorn • Week of June 23, 2025: Learn how to draw a Mermaid • Week of June 30, 2025: Learn how to draw a Hippogriff • Week of July 7, 2025: Learn how to draw a Phoenix DINOSAURS • Week of July 14, 2025: Learn how to draw a Tyrannosaurus Rex • Week of July 21, 2025: Learn how to draw a Triceratops • Week of July 28, 2025: Learn how to draw a Parasaurolophus • Week of August 4, 2025: Learn how to draw a Pterodactyl • Week of August 11, 2025: Learn how to draw a Brontosaurus BUGS • Week of August 18, 2025: Learn how to draw a Ladybug • Week of August 25, 2025: Learn how to draw a Mosquito • Week of September 1, 2025: Learn how to draw a Dragonfly • Week of September 8, 2025: Learn how to draw a Bee • Week of September 15, 2025: Learn how to draw an Ant • Week of September 22, 2025: Learn how to draw a Butterfly FARM ANIMALS • Week of September 29, 2025: Learn how to draw a Pig • Week of October 6, 2025: Learn how to draw a Sheep • Week of October 13, 2025: Learn how to draw a Goat • Week of October 20, 2025: Learn how to draw a Cow • Week of October 27, 2025: Learn how to draw a Horse • Week of November 3, 2025: Learn how to draw a Chicken PETS • Week of November 10, 2025: Learn how to draw a Hedgehog • Week of November 17, 2025: Learn how to draw a Lizard • Week of November 24, 2025: Learn how to draw a Cat • Week of December 1, 2025: Learn how to draw a Dog • Week of December 8, 2025: Learn how to draw a Bunny • Week of December 15, 2025: Learn how to draw a Parrot • Week of December 22, 2025: Learn how to draw a Turtle • Week of December 29, 2025: Learn how to draw a Fish in a Tank ANIMALS OF AUSTRALIA • Week of January 5, 2026: Learn how to draw a Koala • Week of January 12, 2026: Learn how to draw a Kangaroo • Week of January 19, 2026: Learn how to draw a Sugar Glider • Week of January 26, 2026: Learn how to draw an Echidna • Week of February 2, 2026: Learn how to draw a Platypus • Week of February 9, 2026: Learn how to draw a Bat WATER ANIMALS • Week of February 16, 2026: Learn how to draw a Whale • Week of February 23, 2026: Learn how to draw a Shark • Week of march 1; Learn how to draw a octopus Week of march 8: Learn how to draw a Dolphin Week of march 15: Lea rn how to draw a Squid Week Of march 22: Learn how to draw a sea horse Week of march 29: Learn how to draw a Jelly Fish Week of April 5: learn how to draw an axolotl

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Alberta College of Arts and Design
I love to teach art, and specialize in drawing (wide variety of styles and techniques), procreate, watercolour, and acrylic painting. When I teach, I like to lead by example. This means that I draw, paint and create with my learners. Throughout class I make myself available for questions, assistance and feedback.
I’ve been teaching art for over 6 years, and I have been creating art professionally since 2011. I have illustrated marketing materials for Denny’s, Newman’s Own, Duane Reade, Discovery Children’s Museum, The Mendes Foundation and other clients.
I also have extensive experience in advertising. I’ve been working as an art director/creative director for over 17 years. I worked in New York City for 10 years, Cambodia for one, and I currently work remotely out of my home office in Canada. In my advertising career I've made TV commercials, print campaigns, radio spots, online ads, videos and billboards (even some in Time Square.) I love thinking of cool ideas and bringing them to life. I am excited to share this skill with my students.
I believe that art is more than an applicable workplace skill. Art is a form of healthy self-expression and personal reflection. I also believe that art teaches the importance of patience and persistence. It is an education for the mind and soul.
For me, art is meditative. I own dozens of sketchbooks filled with drawings I’ve done throughout the years. Many pages contains a memory, emotion, thought or experience. As a mother, I find additional inspiration through my daughter and new son.
Art is everywhere, if you look for it. Children especially have a gift for finding beauty in the world. I hope to harness this gift so every child in my class can find their own unique, artistic voice.
