Beginner Level
In this 8 lesson course we will learn about the Principles of Art! I will be demonstrating the projects and techniques in a series of step-by-step videos & slideshows. Students will explore a variety of media. Lesson 1: Balance- In this assignment students will look at radial balance! Students will be creating a radial shape drawing. This drawing will be completed in colored pencil. Lesson 2: Proportion- Students will work on observational theme drawing. In this artwork students will focus on achieving correct proportions of the objects. Lesson 3: Unity- Students will create unity in their work by examining an object in contour line. This drawing will focus on drawing an object from observation in a variety of views. Lesson 4: Variety- Students will create a tree drawing filled with a variety of designs using different techniques. Lesson 5: Emphasis- Students will create a nature inspired drawing with color emphasis on a chosen area! Lesson 6: Pattern- Students will create a clay Alebrije inspired animal and finish painting in brightly colored patterns! Lesson 7: Movement: Students will look at the artwork "I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold" by Charles Demuth as inspiration for the rhythm/movement artwork! Lesson 8: Principles of Art Challenge! Create a piece of art work demonstrating at least 3 of the 7 Principles of Art we learned about in class!

In this lesson we will create a landscape with a variety of patterns.
Lesson 4:
Principle of Art: Proportion
In this lesson we will focus on proportion in an observational contour line drawing.

I have taught high school art for 18 years! Last year I had the opportunity to teach middle school students remotely and loved it! I have taught a variety of courses over my career such as: Fine Arts 1 & 2, Introduction to Photography, Pottery 1 & 2, Introduction to Jewelry, Introduction to Crafts, Introduction to Sculpture, Design 1 & 2.
I believe creating art is a process. It takes making a mess, mistakes and trying again! Creating art is a method of communication with the world!
When I'm not creating art, I love cooking, reading, spending time with friends & family!
