Class Experience

In this course students will create photographs and explore their personal style. This course is to help learners explore their own personal style while creating a body of artwork that could be used as a portfolio.

Lesson One:
General Composition! Students will explore what makes a great image!

Learners will examine different types of compositions they could use- Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, Rule of Odds, Triangle Composition, Points of View and Framing.

Lessons Two- Eight:

Each lesson students will be encouraged to shoot 50 photos with the outcome of 5 successful photographs. This create the habit of shooting many images so that students have choices.

Each lesson will focus on a new prompt or artistic challenge. Prompts are to make students think and look at the world around them. Prompts are very open ended so that students can focus and explore photography that interests them. Students can create images in color or black and white.

Learners can use a device of choice-

DSLRs or even phones will work for this course! Students should have prior knowledge of how to operate the camera they are using.

I have taught high school art for 18 years! Last year I had the opportunity to teach middle school students remotely and loved it! I have taught a variety of courses over my career such as: Fine Arts 1 & 2, Introduction to Photography, Pottery 1 & 2, Introduction to Jewelry, Introduction to Crafts, Introduction to Sculpture, Design 1 & 2.

I believe creating art is a process. It takes making a mess, mistakes and trying again! Creating art is a method of communication with the world!

When I'm not creating art, I love cooking, reading, spending time with friends & family!
