This is a weekly art class in which students create art, while also learning something related to math, science, reading, music, and/or history. We will be working with a variety of mediums including; marker, oil pastel, chalk pastel, watercolor, tempera, watercolor pencils, air dry clay, construction paper, etc. Students will be introduced to a topic or theme via slides and/or a short video. Students will learn: To create, present, respond, & connect to art (National Core Arts Standards) The elements of art: Line, color, shape, texture, space, value, & form How to use and take care of their art tools; paint brushes, drawing tools, markers, clay supplies, etc. How we share art through story and culture How how to observe and talk about art using art terminology How to express themselves through a variety of mediums How to create works of art that are detailed and "museum" quality Mathematical concepts such as symmetry, line, proportion, scale
Homework may include finishing one stage of a project if it was not completed by the learner during class time.
Project supplies for the upcoming week will be posted in the classroom a week in advance. We will be using the following supplies often, so you may wish to purchase supplies all at once to save on shipping costs or stock up during back to school deals. Please note whenever a specific brand is suggested it is because I have tested its quality and have had success with using it, but parents may choose alternative brands if they wish. Learners are informally assessed by the teacher. I will provide ongoing feedback and direction to support the learner's understanding of what is being taught and help them improve their artistic skills.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Links may be provided in the Outschool Classroom for students to view before class each week. The teacher will also present information pertinent to the lesson for each week using screen sharing on Zoom.
