Alma Thomas is one of the prominent 20th century African American abstract artists. After a 35 year career teaching junior high, she started working on her own paintings. She is known for brightly colored abstract paintings. She has even showcased her masterpieces at the White House 3 times! Students will learn about her life, her art style, and create a masterpiece of her own inspired by her style. After learning a bit about Alma, we will begin our masterpieces. We will use oil pastels to recreate her style. Students will be shown how to use oil pastels and be gently guided to create their own inspired piece of art.

Supplies: Please have all materials ready before class begins drawing paper oil pastels a couple paper towels for cleaning fingers creativity and imagination !
