US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Through the guided drawing process, students will learn how to use simple lines, shapes, and patterns to create a beautiful abstract drawing. My teaching style involves breaking the process down into smaller, easy-to-follow steps. I pace the class according to the needs of the students; if needed, I give fast finishers a break, allowing students who need more time to complete their work, the time to do so, and even then, finishing before class ends is NOT the objective. The examples in the picture are only suggestive; students may also request a particular favorite if time allows. My classes are intended to be fun, informative, and a safe place to take artistic risks and make mistakes--that is experimentation, which artists do all the time! At the end of class, students will be invited to share their creations no matter what their progress is. More detailed information regarding this class can be found in the syllabus. Instructor's Note: The element PATTERN has been moved back and forth between the elements and principles for many years. One could argue it belongs in both. For the purposes of this project, the element of Pattern will be replacing the element of FORM, which also can belong in both the elements and principles. The rest of the elements of art will remain the same).

Syllabus
2 Lessons
over 1 WeekLesson 1:
Geometric and Organic Shapes
We will discuss SHAPES, focusing on geometric and organic shape, as well different types of lines. We will begin a guided drawing in which a stream of organic and geometric shapes are drawn diagonally across the paper, and then draw lines that outline the sides of the shape, contouring around the paper in concentric fashion.
50 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Colors and Lines
We will discuss primary, secondary, warm and cool colors, as well as darkness and lightness of colors (value). We will color the geometric shapes with either dark or light colors, and the organic shapes with the opposite. The, after discussing patterns and texture, we will draw patterns on top of the light colors.

As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
